Suggested Shropshire Itineraries
Duncan and I have lived together in Shropshire for more than 13 years and the following suggestions are days out that we have particularly enjoyed. More details will be provided in the cottages with regards to location and where possible, leaflets. We hope, very much, that you find these ideas useful and that you have as much fun as we did.
RAF Cosford Museum - National Cold War Exhibition
Before children my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed trips to this particular museum. We have always found it a wonderful place to take friends and family for the whole day and in any weather. The fabulous display of planes, wealth of information and history of various wars really brings home some of the realities of those who fought. It is a haven for any aviation enthusiast!! To see everything you really need a whole day. There are restaurants on site for lunch.

Wroxeter Roman Ruins - English Heritage
It may be said that these ruins don't look much from the outside, however, English Heritage have done brilliantly well at bringing them alive with the talking handset that allows you to tour around at your own pace. This is not a place you would want to visit in the rain as, by definition, there is no shelter but on a dry day we found this to be very interesting and a surprisingly uplifting experience.
Within a couple of miles you may like to lunch at the Mytton and Mermaid...
Mytton and Mermaid
We have never had a bad meal in 10 years of eating at the Mytton and Mermaid and hope that you may enjoy it too. It is located directly opposite Attingham Park (National Trust) on the banks of the river Severn in the village of Atcham. Just 2 miles south east of Shrewsbury on the B4380
Open daily for freshly prepared food
Seasonal menus incorporating local produce
Fine wines and local beer
Brunch ~ Lunch ~ Afternoon Tea ~ Dinner
Attingham Park - National Trust
Directly opposite the Mytton and Mermaid are the black wrought iron gates of Attingham Park. In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful and certainly one of the most popular National Trust properties in Shropshire. A walk around the very extensive grounds will set you back about £3.80, unless you have National Trust membership of course. After dining at the Mytton and Mermaid a good walk around the deer park, Victorian garden, orchard and woodland area would definitely work up an appetite enough to eat again later that day!

Attingham Park - National Trust
If visiting Attingham Park main house as well as walking the grounds then we would suggest a whole day. There are two restaurants on site that serve soup and sandwiches as well as delicious cakes etc. There are also numerous places to eat picnics if you prefer. Tupperware and flasks are provided in all the cottages.
We've always found Attingham to be one of those rare places that is equally beautiful in all weathers and all seasons.

Ironbridge - Blisthill Museum
Our experience of this Victorian Museum has been a fabulous treat and a great day out for all the family. It is definitely worth getting there early, particularly in the summer holidays. If you are likely to get peckish before midday remember to take a snack because no food is available before 12.00 noon!

Acton Scott Farm - Historic Working Farm as seen on TV
I have taken the children to this farm several times, along with other little friends. Despite having great days out I would like to go back without them so that I can pay full attention to the history being taught! It is a beautiful place to visit and plenty of animals to see, however, there is a lot to learn if you are able to listen without 'mummy, mummy, the goat's eating my coat'!

Shropshire Walking
Fabulous website offering many different grades of walks over the Long Mynd and surrounding hills allowing you to plan your routes in advance. Cottages are also equipped with all relevant OS maps as well as walking books.
The Pound - Leebotwood
Any day of your holiday may end in The Pound. This is one of many local pub/restaurants situated within a couple of miles of Middle Farm Cottages. The food is outstanding and well worth a visit whilst you are here.
